ITTF Rankings: Aruna Quadri Drop By One Spot

Nigerian table tennis icon Aruna Quadri has dropped from the 17th spot to the 18th spot in the most recent International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) world rankings for June.

China’s Chuqin Wang defeated Zhendong Fan to claim the top spot in the world of table tennis.

Before being demoted, Zhendong held the top spot for 142 consecutive weeks. While Long Ma remained in the third position.

In Africa, Aruna Quadri, 34, still holds the top spot with 1,150 points in the month under review.

Omar Assar of Egypt has climbed one spot to 22nd in the world as he moved up from 23rd to 22nd; he is rated second in Africa.

After getting 272 points in June, teenage Nigerian prodigy Taiwo Mati, who is swiftly rising, achieved a significant improvement in the standings, moving up 13 spaces to conclude the month in 63rd place in the world.

Mati has risen considerably in the ranks as a result of his performances in various events this year.

A second Nigerian who significantly improved in the rankings is Olajide Omotayo, who climbed 18 spots to 139th.

Also, Nigerian athletes, Amadi Omeh and Rilwan Akanbi rose to five and six places, respectively. Omeh rose 28 positions to 164th place, while Akanbi rose 32 places to 259th place in the ITTF rankings.

Tosin Oribamise, the top-ranked female player from Nigeria, moved up 24 spaces to 147th place in the women’s division, while Fatimo Bello depressingly dropped 56 spots to 108th. Ajoke Ojomu moved up 25 spots to the 191st spot.

Offiong Edem dropped 137 places to finish in the 283rd spot overall, while seven-time Olympian Funke Oshonaike fell 222 places to finish in the 374th spot in the women’s rankings.
