The PUNCH: The Central Bank of Nigeria on Friday threw depositors into confusion as it gave conflicting orders on the deposit of old ₦1,000 and N500 notes. The conflicting orders emanated from media reports based on anonymous briefings by senior officials of the bank, a memo that the bank reportedly gave to commercial banks, and an official statement issued by the bank, all within six hours.

The Guardian: Nigeria’s banking public was yesterday thrown into confusion following a directive by commercial banks that their customers could deposit the old N1000 and N500 notes with them and a rebuttal by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that the information was fake and unauthorised.

The Nation: Fresh protests over the new naira notes scarcity erupted in Lagos, Ogun, Rivers and Ondo states yesterday, leaving two persons dead at Mowe-Ibafo in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. Several other protesters were injured as law enforcements officials battled to restore order. A different sort of chaos ensued at the Lagos annex of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Kakawa Street where a sea of heads almost swamped the complex in a desperate bid by people to gain entry into the building to deposit their old N500 and ₦1,000 notes

Daily Trust: The presidency has warned the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai and that of Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje, among others, against dangerous allegations of planned interim government, saying it is aimed at creating panic and inciting members of the public against the federal government.
