The Ohanaeze youth wing has cried out to its mother body, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, over what it described as the marginalisation of the wing by the apex Igbo socio-culture group.

According to the youth wing of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, it was rather hurtful that now that it was time for its mother body to appreciate it, it relegated it to the back.

Naija News understands that the agitations of the youth group were contained in a statement signed by its South-South Zonal Coordinator, Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa in Owerri on Friday.

He submitted that the organisation in times past has deployed the youth wing in conflict situations, especially regarding maintaining peace in the south-east, “so why would the youths now be relegated?”

Arthur-Ugwa argued that the role of the youth in society can’t be overruled, it would therefore be advisable for the organisation to bring it into the mainstream of its activities rather than relegating it.

He said their reaction was a sequel to the recent developments where the youths are being marginalised by the organisation’s parent body.

He commended the role of Ohanaeze youths in addressing issues such as the continued sit-at-home order by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and attacks.

Arthur-Ugwa asserted that but for the intervention of the youth group, the entire region would have witnessed chaos.

He raised the need for the organisation to give the youths a sense of belonging in accordance with the organisation’s laid down rules.

“We are called upon when it’s time to reach out to those tumbling the waters of peace and order, but when it’s time to appreciate us, such as during outings that will benefit the organisation, we are relegated to the background.

“We have remained loyal to the leadership of our President-General, Prof George Obiozor, and we have never been known to be dissident. It leaves us wondering why we weren’t captured in important outings such as the birthday of our leader, Chief Nnia Nwodo and others.

“We call on the leadership of our parent body to rejig its modus operandi with a view to capturing all affiliate arms of the association in all its activities for a mutual sense of belonging and in respect for our guiding rules,” Arthur-Ugwa added.
