Former President Goodluck Jonathan has come out to recount how he left watching the final game of the World Cup between France and Argentina to chair a wedding reception.

According to the former president, he was watching the game when he got called that it was time to chair the event and he had to abandon seeing the rest of the game.

Naija News gathered that Jonathan, who couldn’t contain his feelings disclosed this at the reception of the wedding he chaired in Abuja on Sunday.

The wedding was reported to be between the daughter of a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power, Ayibadiepriye Igali and the son of the former Ambassador to the Scandinavian countries, Olufunso Ayileka.

Jonathan expressed shock that several dignitaries still graced the occasion despite the world cup final game being ongoing.

The former president stated that “I never expected this great gathering because of the 2022 World Cup football final between France and Argentina. I was watching it when I was told it was time for the wedding reception. I had to leave and come here.”

Dignitaries in attendance at the wedding included the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, represented by Oseloka Obaze, former Chief of Staff to Jonathan, Chief Mike Ogiadomhen, former Senate President, Pius Anyim, former Director-General of NIMASA, Ferdinand Agu and Senator Cleopas Moses (Bayelsa Central).

Others were former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Attah, Ambassador Jeffery Teneilabe, Dr Gbara Awanen, Interim Administrator of Presidential Amnesty Programme, Major General Barry Ndiomu (retd.), Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund and former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, Chief Oliver Okeke, Stanley Okoye, Senator Nimi Bariga-Amange, Prof. Nimi Briggs and former Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Aniebo among others.
