NNPP Takes Position On Alliance With Other Parties For 2023 Gov Election

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has urged the Nigerian military to resist the pressure to compromise the 2023 general elections.

Naija News reports that the NNPP was reacting to a statement by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Leo Irabor, that the military is under pressure to compromise the 2023 elections.

Irabor disclosed this on Thursday while speaking at the ministerial media briefing organised by the presidential communications team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He further stated that necessary measures have been put in place to ensure that the military follows the directives of President Muhammadu Buhari to remain neutral in the forthcoming elections.

In a chat with The Punch on Thursday, NNPP spokesman, Ladipo Johnson asserted that Irabor’s comments show that some elements were working to jeopardize the election.

Johnson admonished the military to operate within the confines of the law and stick to its standard operating procedure during elections.

He commended the military and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for remaining resolute to ensure the country has a free, fair, and credible election.

The NNPP spokesman also called on the military to remain vigilant against all anti-people forces while maintaining its neutrality during the election.

He said: “We thank the military and INEC for remaining resolute to ensure we have a free, fair, and credible election. We urge them to continue to remain neutral because, without it, our democracy will be in danger.

“It is obvious we have unscrupulous people who don’t care about the will of the people. It is just about power and the money they can take from the commonwealth of Nigeria.”
