Be Smart, All Of Kwankwaso’s Commanding Officers Have Joined APC – NNPP Warns NDC

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has alleged that former presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is still exerting influence over the party’s affairs.

Naija News reports that the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, made the allegation in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Olaposi, Kwankwaso is still meddling in the party’s affairs through loyalists allegedly left behind after his departure.

Kwankwaso is not only trying to hijack political power in NDC Kano, he has continued to drag the NNPP for reasons best known to him.

Some members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement are the ones he left behind to continue the litigation that Kwankwaso initiated,” the party said.

According to the party, Kwankwaso’s political influence in Kano has diminished significantly, alleging that many of his key allies have defected to the APC.

NDC should be smart and intelligent enough to understand that Kwankwaso’s structure was in the past organic in Kano State, but at the moment all his commanding officers have joined the APC,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, NNPP has said it will not present a presidential candidate in the 2027 general election, but is instead exploring alliances with other political parties.

Naija News reports that the Acting National Chairman of the party, Bala Mohammed, made this known during the party’s 11th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Saturday.

Mohammed said the decision was taken in the country’s interest and to support a credible candidate capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

According to him, the party would carefully assess candidates from other political parties before deciding whom to support, stressing that the current situation in the country requires political parties to work together rather than compete unnecessarily.

He said, “We are not going to have a presidential candidate in our party, but we are open to an alliance.

“It is not compulsory to field a presidential candidate just for the sake of it. We need to see those who have emerged from other political parties and determine whether they are credible, qualified and capable of leading Nigeria.”

Mohammed also dismissed speculations that the party may align with the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), noting that the NNPP remains open to working with any party whose ideology aligns with its own.

He emphasised that the absence of a candidate like its 2023 flagbearer also influenced the decision not to field a presidential aspirant in 2027.

He added, “As of 2023, the presidential candidate we fielded was the most qualified and credible, but he has since left our party. We wish him all the best.”
