President Buhari To Confer Award On Wike Amidst PDP Crisis

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to confer the honour of “Distinguished Award in Infrastructure Delivery” on Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Naija News reports the award is to be presented at the forthcoming Nigeria Excellence in Public Service Award put together by the Federal Government.

As contained in a letter by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha which was signed by the Permanent Secretary (General Services) in the SGF’s Office, Dr. Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, the award ceremony is billed to hold on October 21 at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

Some of the infrastructural achievements that have earned Governor Wike the recognition for such an award include investments by his administration in projects in the healthcare, education, health, sports, and agriculture as well as the construction of twelve flyovers in the state.

The commitment has earned him the nickname Mr. Project with Wike vowing to continue until his last day in office.

He said: “The only way we can show gratitude to the people for the confidence they reposed in us is to continue to serve them with all our heart and might.”

“I will continue to commission projects until the last day. We can’t stop. We were elected to serve the people. We will continue to offer quality services to our people.

“Even our worst critics will agree that we have delivered excellently on our campaign promises. By God’s grace we will finish strong and our incoming governor, Siminalayi Fubara will continue in our legacy of quality service to our people.”

Wike, PDP Still At Loggerheads

Meanwhile, Governor Wike and his allies were on Monday absent as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) kicked off its presidential campaign.

Naija News reports that PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and many other party chieftains stormed Uyo, Akwa Ibom State today to commence the 2023 presidential campaign properly.

Atiku who was elated with the turn-up at the campaign flag-off promised to rescue Nigeria from insecurity and a bad economy and to unite the northern and southern parts of the country.

However, top party stakeholders, the likes of Governor Wike and his Oyo State counterpart and friend, Seyi Makinde were missing at the occasion in Uyo.

Also absent at the campaign inauguration held at the Nest of Champions International Stadium, Uyo, were the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, Governor Makinde, Abia State’s Governor Okezie Ikpaezu, and Enugu State governor, Ugwuanyi Ifeanyi.

The Wike camp had vowed not to participate in Atiku’s presidential campaigns except Iyorchia Ayu resigns as the party’s national chairman.

They argued that Atiku’s emergence as the PDP flagbearer has put the major leadership positions in the north which negates the principle of justice and fairness.
