Kano NDC Governorship Candidate Picks Kwankwaso As Running Mate
The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has named Mustapha Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
Naija News reports that the development was confirmed on Monday by Gwarzo’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, who said the decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders and stakeholders.
According to him, the choice was aimed at strengthening the party’s electoral prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Shuaibu described Mustapha Kwankwaso as a loyal and committed member of the party whose nomination would help consolidate support for the NDC across Kano State.
“The governorship candidate of our great party, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has selected Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election in Kano State,” he said.
He added that the decision reflected the party’s commitment to unity, inclusiveness and effective representation.
Mustapha is the son of former Kano State governor and National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
His emergence is expected to further strengthen the influence of the Kwankwasiyya movement within the NDC as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
The development also comes amid ongoing efforts by the party to consolidate its structures and expand its support base in Kano, one of Nigeria’s key political battlegrounds.
Gwarzo, a former Deputy Governor of Kano State, emerged as the NDC governorship candidate following consultations among party stakeholders.
