The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday received former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

Naija News understands the two leaders discussed the current political situation in the Republic of Mali.

As the special envoy of the Economic Community of West African Nations (ECOWAS) on the situation in Mali, Jonathan gave updates on the latest developments in the West African nation to President Buhari.

The special assistant to President Buhari on digital communications, Bashir Ahmad took to his Twitter account to reveal details of their discussion.

He wrote: “President @MBuhari today, received former President, Dr. @GEJonathan who is an ECOWAS Special Envoy on the situation in Republic of Mali.

“During the meeting, Dr. Jonathan updated the President on the face-off between Mali and Cote D’Ivoire over about 49 detained Ivorian soldiers.”

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that Nigeria’s democracy is drifting towards dictatorship.

This declaration is coming after the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, visited Jonathan to seek his support ahead of the 2023 elections.

Speaking at the 70th birthday of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah on Wednesday in Abuja, Jonathan insisted that all hands must be on deck to save the country.
