The lead negotiator between bandits and the families of the kidnapped Abuja-Kaduna train passengers, Tukur Mamu, has been arrested in Cairo, Egypt.

Naija News learned that the newspaper publisher was arrested at the Cairo International Airport on Tuesday and he is set to be repatriated back to Nigeria.

Mamu was said to be on his way to Saudi Arabia with his family members for lesser Hajj before he was arrested and detained by Egyptian authorities for 24 hours.

Speaking with Daily Trust, Mamu said he left Nigeria on Tuesday and was investigated by the Egyptian security agencies, stating that nothing incriminating was found in his possession.

Mamu claimed that the Nigerian government had perfected a plan to detain him in another country, but that could not happen because the Egyptian government found that his papers were genuine.

He said the government had planned to melt out the same treatment given to the self-acclaimed Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Igboho, on him.

Recall that Mamu had been involved in securing the release of some train passengers kidnapped on March 28, 2022.

Mamu, however, pulled out of the negotiation with bandits after alleging that threat to his life and attempted blackmail by the Nigerian Government.

It was said that the government had accused him of conniving with terrorists, an allegation that he has denied.
