Nigerian veteran rapper, Jude Abaga, also known as M.I releases his album which has been a long time coming. Though he did an album with young rapper, Blaqbonez earlier this year, lovers of music couldn’t be more grateful.
MI Abaga is known for his flexibility and intelligent use of words to create puns in his rap. His rhymes, flow and rhythm are always on point, which makes fans say he is arguably the best rapper Nigeria has ever seen. In 2006, His song “Crowd Mentality” gained popularity in Jos, Nigeria, propelling him to fame. Talk About It, his debut studio album, was released in 2008. He has been recognized in the International scene as far back as 2009, being nominated for Best International Act at the 2010 BET Awards and winning Best Hip Hop and Best New Act at the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards.
The first time we had a hint that MI Abaga was releasing a solo project in 2022, was in April. He had just gotten engaged to the love of his life, and he put out a one-minute long video making this special announcement. The background tune to this video was a song we had never heard before, once with the maestro vocalist of the industry, Wande Coal. This was double excitement for his fans; the fact that he had just gotten engaged and that he was releasing new music soon.
Nigerian rapper, producer, and businessman M.I. Abaga’s eleventh album blends hip-hop with Afropop, Amapiano, and highlife while addressing issues including legacy, mental health, and romance. According to him, the album is a declaration that, despite the circumstances, you can overcome obstacles and achieve great things.
Numerous Nigerian hip hop enthusiasts have referred to him as their country’s “Hip Hop Messiah.” Gaining popularity on the global scale, he has been regarded as a pioneer of the “Afrobeats” movement. MI Abaga’s The Guy would definitely be one for the major charts.
