The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Sunday announced Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2023 general election.

Naija News reports that Tinubu made his choice of the former Borno governor known to newsmen after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari at his private residence in Daura, Katsina State, alongside Governor Aminu Bello Masari.

Atiku Set To Return To Nigeria, To Attend PDP Guber Rally In Osun

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is set to return to Nigeria and attend the grand rally of the party in Osun State.

It is understood that the PDP candidate is cutting his European trip short ahead of the final rally before the governorship election slated for Saturday.

Atiku has been out of the country for about three weeks now amidst the crisis rocking the PDP over the emergence of Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate even as a section of the PDP leaders have openly expressed their displeasure over the choice of Okowa and how Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike was treated in the saga.

According to TheCable, the PDP presidential candidate is set to return to Nigeria from the UK ahead of the Osun governorship election.

It is understood that the PDP has been making efforts to resolve the crisis in its fold before the Osun poll.

Peter Obi’s Camp Speaks As Tinubu Unveils Shettima

The Director of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign, Doyin Okupe has urged fellow Nigerians to back the youths in their bid to take back their country following the selection of former Governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima as the running mate to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

Naija News earlier reported that Tinubu in an interview with journalists on Sunday after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State confirmed Senator Shettima as his running mate.

Shettima, who is the Senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, played a crucial role during Tinubu’s campaign to emerge as the APC presidential candidate.

The former governor will replace Ibrahim Masari, whose name was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as an interim vice presidential candidate of the ruling party.

Shortly after the APC national leader confirmed his choice of running mate, Okupe via the microblogging platform, Twitter maintained that a nation that does not listen to the voice of its youths will forfeit its future.

He also added that Nigeria has just one more tenure to crash.

Tinubu Gives Reason For Not Picking A Christian As Running Mate

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu raised eyebrows on Sunday after confirming former Governor of Borno State, Sen. Kashim Shettima, a non-Christian as his running mate.

Naija News understands that the announcement was received with a barrage of reactions as Tinubu’s choice of running narrowed down to a Muslim-Muslim ticket despite several admonitions by concerned bodies to consider a Muslim-Christian ticket.

Prior to the development, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had vehemently rejected the idea of a single-faith-ticket, urging political parties to focus more on competence than sentiment.

Tinubu who ended with a Muslim-Muslim ticket has, however, defended his reasons for not picking a Christian as his running mate.

The former governor of Lagos State said all his life, decisions regarding the team around and supporting him had always been guided by the principles of competence, innovation, compassion, integrity, fairness, and adherence to excellence.

APC Must Be Made To Pay For The Consequences Of Their Extreme Lack Of Thoughtfulness – Segun Showunmi

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi, has faulted the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu for picking a Muslim as his running mate.

Naija News earlier reported that Tinubu, on Sunday after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State confirmed Senator Shettima as his running mate.

Reacting to this, Showunmi questioned if the APC intends to play only to the numbers of advantage without care for national unity and harmony.

Showunmi said the ruling party has made its choice and must be made to pay for the consequence of their extreme lack of thoughtfulness.

According to Showunmi, APC needs to lose the 2023 election to enable them to get the message that parties that balance their ticket do to Inspire national cohesion.

2023: Presidency Confirms Shettima As Tinubu’s Running Mate

President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has confirmed former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima as the running mate of Bola Tinubu under the All Progressives Congress.

This is coming after Tinubu, the presidential candidate of APC confirmed Shettima as his running mate despite calls against Muslim/Muslim tickets.

The spokesman to President Buhari, Garba Shehu in the statement released on Sunday noted that Tinubu informed the president that Shettima was chosen based on his competence.

The statement reads, “Presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Sunday in Daura, Katsina State, paid Sallah homage to President Muhammadu Buhari, honouring the President with information on his choice of running mate, Sen. Kashim Ibrahim Shettima.”

Wike vs Atiku: ‘No Body Is Bigger Than PDP, They Can Leave’

The decision of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to hold a closed-door meeting with some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors has not gone down well with some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall that Governor of Ekiti State and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Kayode Fayemi, had led Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State to a closed-door meeting with the Rivers State governor on Friday.

This has increased speculations that the Rivers governor may be plotting to join the ruling APC.

Unhappy with the decision of Wike and supporters mingling with the opposition party, a member of the PDP National Executive Committee, who pleaded anonymity, stated that no one can hold the main opposition party to ransom.

The PDP chieftain insisted that the party was bigger than every member.

Masari Officially Steps Down As Tinubu’s Running Mate

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kabir Ibrahim Masari, has officially stepped down as the running mate of the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Naija News reports that Tinubu had earlier submitted the name of the APC chieftain to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a placeholder until a substantive running mate is announced.

However, the APC Presidential flagbearer has confirmed former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2023 election.

In a letter he personally signed on Sunday, Masari has confirmed that he has stepped down as the running mate to Tinubu and has submitted his withdrawal letter and affidavit to that effect.

He stated his decision will enable Tinubu to give more accommodation and inclusion that will position the APC to win the coming elections, with the support of the people of Nigeria.

Masari, however, expressed hope that he can still serve the ruling party and the country in several other roles.

2023: Zulum Reacts As Tinubu Picks Shettima As Running Mate

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum on Sunday reacted as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu picked Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Zulum in his reaction to the development expressed excitement with Tinubu’s decision to pick Shettima.

He further stated that the selection of Shettima as the APC vice presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election is the best choice at this moment.

The statement released by Zulum reads, “Earlier today, I received with the greatest joy, the announcement of my mentor, His Excellency, Senator Kashim Shettima as the Vice Presidential candidate of our party, the APC and insha’Allah, the next Vice President of the Federal Republic under His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our incoming President.

2023: Kwankwaso Should Deputize Peter Obi, Else Forget Merger – Aisha Yesufu

The co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls movement, Aisha Yesufu has shared her opinion on the alliance talk between the party of 2023 presidential candidates, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Peter Obi.
Naija News reports that Kwankwaso is holding the presidential ticket for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) while Obi is the standard flagbearer for the Labour Party.

The duo are both hopefuls of unseating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections but are puzzled about emerging a running mate.

In the light of this, Obi and Kwankwaso’s camp entered into a talk on forming a merger to get a wider reach to defeat both the ruling APC and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, the alliance move seems to have failed as the two camps couldn’t agree on who should be the candidate and running mate.

Giving her opinion during an interview with The PUNCH over the weekend, Aisha Yesufu who is known to be a staunch critic of the incumbent government said, Obi should have been the candidate and Kwankwaso the running mate.

The Christian Association of Nigeria has reacted to the selection of former Governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima as the running mate to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

Recall that Tinubu in an interview with journalists on Sunday after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State confirmed Senator Shettima as his running mate.

Shettima, who is the Senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly will replace Ibrahim Masari, whose name was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as an interim vice presidential candidate of the ruling party.

Reacting to THE WHISTLER’s request for comment on Sunday, the Special Assistant (Media and Communications) to the CAN President, Rev Dr Samson Ayokunle, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, maintained that the current realities in Nigeria, where Christians and Muslims are being targeted by terrorists, calls for wisdom in the selection of leaders that will represent Nigerians.

2023: NNPP Speaks On Kwankwaso Being An Ethnic Bigot

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has refuted claims that its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is an ethnic bigot.

Naija News reports that Kwankwaso was labelled an ethnic bigot following his statement in Gombe State last weekend while inaugurating the Gombe State Executive of the party in which he was quoted to have said the Igbos were good business people but poor politicians.

The NNPP in his defence stated that Kwankwanso’s comment on Ndigbo and people of the South-East was misrepresented and taken out of context.

This was disclosed in a Sallah message on Saturday issued by the National publicity secretary, Agbo Major, at the party secretariat in Abuja.

Agbo emphasised that Kwankwaso has deep-seated respect for the people of the South-East and all Nigerians, adding that the party’s presidential candidate will never speak less of any ethnic group or religion.
