Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde has revealed who will be his running mate in the upcoming 2023 elections.

Makinde announced Barrister Bayo Lawal, one of his appointees and the chairman of the State Housing Corporation, as his running mate thereby dumping his deputy Engineer Rauf Olaniyan.

Lawal, as reported, was one of three other persons widely rumored as possible replacements for the deputy governor.

Recall that on May 25th Makinde emerged as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Oyo.

Makinde, at the primary election held in Ibadan, the state capital, claimed a total of 1,040 delegates’ votes and thus floored Hazeem Gbolarunmi who managed to poll only two votes.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari may have shortlisted Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Senate President Ahmad Lawan as his prefered successor.

Naija News recalls that the President had appealed to the APC governors to allow him to pick his preferred successor ahead of the party’s presidential primaries on June 6.

Buhari made the appeal during a meeting with the governors and the National Chairman of the ruling party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday. Read more
