Bandits Abduct Taraba Varsity Students

Gunmen have invaded a mosque at Soyoye in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State and kidnapped a police officer alongside two others.

The police officer, Inspector Kamarudeen Bello, who doubles as the Imam of the Mosque was kidnapped four days after welcoming a new baby into his family.

A source informed Daily Trust that the abductors contacted the families of the victims to pay a ransom of N5m each. The victims were later released after the ransom was paid.

The source told the publication: “The wife of Inspector Kamarudeen was contacted with the phone number of one of the kidnapped victims.

“I don’t know how much each of them paid, but I think the police Inspector parted with about N700,000 before he was released.”

When the Police Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi was contacted, he confirmed the abduction and release of the victims on Sunday. However, he said he was not aware of the payment of any ransom.

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old pastor, identified as Isaac Akinbola and two female members of his church have been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly assaulting his wife, Dasola Akinbola which led to the death of their eight-month-old baby, Obadiah Akinbola.

Men of the Ogun State Police Command arrested the cleric and two female members identified as Esther Olowolayemo, 29, and Oluwakemi Oshinbajo, 30, over the death of the child. Read more
