APC Crisis: Gov Bello Summons NEC Meeting, May Seal Buni’s Fate

In a move that has been described as targeted at consolidating his leadership claim on the party, Governor Sani Bello has summoned a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was gathered that part of the aim of the meeting may be to officially hand over the party structures to Bello and confirm the ouster of Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni as the chairman of the Caretaker/Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).

Naija News recalls Governor Bello on Monday stormed the APC National Secretariat in Abuja where he presided over a meeting of the Caretaker/Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also inaugurated the state party chairmen of the party.

This happened shortly after the APC had denied sacking Mai Mala Buni.

Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Bello while refusing to categorically state if Buni had been sacked from office, said he is the acting chairman of the party and has been so for a while, adding that he has the full support of President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to This Day, the NEC meeting summoned by Governor Bello is expected to approve the handing over of the party structure to him.

Also, it would empower the Governor to give orders for the pruning down of the national convention sub-committees earlier constituted by the Mai Mala Buni leadership and work in earnest towards actualizing the March 26 date for the APC National Convention.

Meanwhile, sources quoted by the publication say Governor Buni is billed to return from his Dubai medical trip tomorrow but his arrival in the country is not expected to scuttle the new arrangement of the party as stakeholders are said to have already shifted allegiance to Bello.
