Governor Douye Diri-led’s government of Bayelsa State has pegged petrol sales price at N230 per litre in the state.

In a statement released on Friday morning through his Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Diri warned against unnecessary fuel price hikes in the country, noting that no station must sell above the approved price.

Naija News understands that the governor has inaugurated a monitoring team on the pricing and distribution of petroleum products on Thursday.

Despite that the national approved sale price is N165, there have been outrageous hikes in the price of the Premium Motor Spirit across the States due to scarcity.

Bayelsa state government has, however, said the fixed amount would ensure availability until fuel scarcity ends.

He also directed that no consumer should get more than 25 litres in a jerrycan, Naija News reports.

Assuring that the government was taking steps to manage the situation, he lamented that Bayelsa is the least on NNPC allocation of petrol.

The deputy governor said the state’s payment of the same amount for fuel subsidy as states with lion share of allocation was robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Ewhrudjakpo disclosed that Bayelsa would consider constructing a fuel depot due to the unavailability of fuel.

Meanwhile, Chairman, Bayelsa State Petroleum Taskforce, Richman Samuel, has said that the fixed price emerged after a series of negotiations

Chairman, Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), Dukumor Taremi-West, promised that marketers would not take undue advantage of consumers.
