Tinubu Appointment: Ohakim Denies Leading Revolt Against Uzodinma

The Federal Government has withdrawn a criminal charge filed against a former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim.

Naija News reports that the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation withdrew the case from the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday.

At the court session, the lawyer to AGF’s office, Sani Bagudu, told the court that the action was taken to enable the government to study the case file and take appropriate action.

Following the withdrawal, the trial judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, struck out a criminal charge filed against the former governor and one Chinedu Okpareke.

Recall that the office of the Inspector-General of Police had preferred a five-count charge against Ohakim and Okpareke, following a petition by one Chinyere Amuchienwa.

The plaintiff had accused both men of harassment and threatening to release her nude photos to the public but was later arrested for allegedly giving false information to the police.

Following the accuser’s arrest, the police filed an application seeking to withdraw the charges against the duo.

However, the AGF office expressed interest in taking over the prosecution of the case and was granted permission by the court on September 27.

The AGF’s application has now been withdrawn from the court and the charge against the former governor and his alleged accomplice has been struck out.
