Flashback: Aisha Buhari, Silverbird Honour Abba Kyari For ‘Outstanding Performance’

The suspended head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Abba Kyari, in 2018, received a gilded plaque from the country’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari.

Naija News recalls that the embattled super cop received the award for his role in solving some of the biggest cases in the country at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Mrs Buhari, who presented the plaque to the former IRT commander, said the award is “in appreciation and recognition of Kyari’s gallantry and diligent role in curbing crime in Nigeria”.

Also in 2018, the Deputy Commissioner of Police was honoured by a private television station, Silverbird, with the ‘hero of the year’ award.

At the event, Kyari was awarded a plaque for his role in curbing crime in the country by former Governor of Anambra State and former vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

However, four years after the super cop was celebrated for his service in curbing crime in the country, there had been numerous allegations levelled against him.

The latest which has stirred reaction across the country is the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) accusing Kyari of trafficking drugs.

The development has since seen the suspended head of IRT arrested by the Nigeria Police who then handed him over to the NDLEA for further investigation.

There are claims that he would be extradited to the United States after answering his case with the anti-drug agency.
