Ekiti 2022: Segun Oni In Fresh Trouble As SDP Tells Court To Disqualify Him As Party Candidate

Former Ekiti State Governor, Segun Oni has concluded plans to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to contest in the June 18 governorship election.

Naija News reports that the aggrieved PDP gubernatorial aspirants wants out of the party following the emergence of Ayodele Fayose’s anointed aspirant, Bisi Kolawole, as the party gubernatorial candidate.

Segun Oni had claimed that the just concluded PDP gubernatorial primary was manipulated to favour Kolawole.

According to reports, the PDP stalwart will lead over 70,000 members out of the party to APGA on Saturday.

A source told The Nation that Segun Oni will contest for Ekiti Governor on the platform of APGA where his name would be listed before the close of substitution.

The source said: “I can confirm that Oga Segun Oni is leaving PDP any moment from Saturday (today). His decision was informed by the undemocratic manner the just concluded governorship primary was conducted by Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel to favour Ex-Governor Ayodele Fayose’s anointed aspirant.

“So, Oni is convinced that opposition PDP that proud itself as the most democratic political party in Africa is not yet ready to change its usual ways of imposition and godfatherism”.

The source also added that 10 political parties are willing to adopt Segun Oni as their sole candidate for the forthcoming poll.

When contacted, the Director of Media of Segun Oni Campaign Council, Hon. Lanre Ogunsuyi, said he can neither confirm nor deny the former Governor’s defection plans.
