The All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) led by Governor Mai Mala-Buni has released schedules for its national convention.

After a series of controversies, the ruling party on Tuesday announced that its national convention will hold on February 26.

Naija News understands that the party will during the convention elect its national officers to the National Executive Committee (NEC).

APC in a communique released on Wednesday (today) after a meeting of its national leaders, said the Interim Report of the National Reconciliation Committee will be received on January 31.

The release signed by the national secretary of the party, John Akpan Udoedehe read thus: “Consideration and adoption of Reports of State Congresses – 02/02/2022; Inauguration of the State Executives – 03/02/2022.

“Sales of forms to aspirants vying for national offices will commence at the secretariat on February 14; the deadline for submission is February 19.

“Publication of Sub-Committees – 19/02/2022; Screening of all aspirants vying for national offices – 20-22/02/2022.”

It added: ”Screening Appeals to hear and resolve complaints arising from the screening exercise is slated for February 23.”

Naija News understands that the Accreditation of statutory and elected delegates to the national convention will be held between February 24 and 25.

While the national convention event remains on February 26, an appeal to hear and resolve complaints arising from the National Convention will be held on February 28, 2022.

Meanwhile, the immediate past Director-General of Progressive Governors’ Forum, Salihu Lukman has revealed why he decided to resign from his position.

Lukman, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said he resigned due to the failure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to tolerate criticism and be democratic.

He advised the APC to ensure that the new executives that will be elected at the national convention will take criticism and not be dictatorial or show tyrannic posture.

The APC chieftain stated that another reason he left his position was to continue to freely hold the party accountable to the principles of internal democracy.

He said, “I can confirm that it is true I have given my resignation to Forum Chairman, His Excellency Abubakar Atiku Bagudu. I restrained myself from making any public statement on the matter because I am still awaiting acceptance.

“I have privately responded to many enquiries from party leaders, friends, family members and clarified that it is true that my decision to resign my position is to enable me to continue with the campaign to return APC to its founding vision, which is to build a party that is not only democratic but oriented based on social democratic principles.”
