Herdsmen Attack: Ortom Meets IGP Adamu In Abuja

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on Wednesday met with the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, in Abuja.

This is according to a photo that was shared on the official Twitter handle of the Governor.

“Earlier today with @PoliceNG IG Mohammed Adamu after a meeting in Abuja,” Ortom captioned the photo.

Recall that gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attempted to assassinate Ortom who was returning from his farm in the outskirt of Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Ortom on Tuesday met President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed-door at the Presidential Villa.

Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, the Benue governor disclosed that insecurity is a big threat to the conduct of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

He noted that if the current security challenges persist or escalate, the 2023 election in the country may not hold.

Ortom declared: “that there will be no 2023 elections in Nigeria if insecurity persists”.

He reiterated his stand that the nation is sitting on a keg of gun powder and urgent steps need to be taken to tackle security challenges in the country.

The Governor emphasized that the federal government must urgently address the impunity with which some lawless people and criminals operate in Nigeria and punish those found culpable.
