The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has proceeded on self-isolation after one of his close aides tested positive for COVID-19.

This was confirmed in a statement on Friday by the Lagos Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi.

According to the commissioner, the aide, whose identity wasn’t disclosed to the public tested positive to the virus on Thursday, 10th December.

The Governor and other members of his team will be tested for coronavirus infection but will remain in isolation until their test results are confirmed.

“This is not the first time the governor is having the COVID-19 test. He has had at least three since May when he announced that 10 of his aides had tested positive for the virus,” the commissioner noted.

It will be recalled that the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday evening, 10th December 2020, confirmed 675 new cases of Coronavirus disease infection in Nigeria.

The new cases of COVID-19 infection were confirmed via a statement on the official Twitter handle of the health agency.

This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria to 71,344 which includes 65,474 discharged cases and 1,190 deaths.

Of the confirmed figures on Thursday, Lagos accounted for 128.

The federal government, through the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire had also earlier instructed COVID-19 isolation centers nationwide to get ready to re-open in anticipation of a possible second wave of the virus.
