The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has received one hundred and six members of the Action Democratic Party ahead of the governorship election in the state.
The ruling party received the defector from Egor, Ovia South West, and Ovia North East Local Government Areas of Edo.
This is coming few weeks after the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki defected from the All Progressives Congress to join the PDP ahead of the September 19 governorship election.
The governorship candidate of PDP, Godwin Obaseki, would be contesting against Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress and other candidates during the September 19 governorship election in Edo State.
The Organising Secretary of ADP in the state, Oshodin Izedomwen, who led the defectors noted that the defection was part of their belief in the capacity of the PDP.
Izedomwen in his statement noted that he was a founding member of the PDP and noted that he dumped the party because of some people whom he described as “strange bedfellows” who came to join the PDP.
He further stated that other defectors and himself have now returned to the party because the “strange bedfellows had since left the party.”
“In politics, interest matters because it is always the driving force,” he stated.
The Chairman of PDP in Edo State, Tony Aziegbemi, while receiving the defectors, described the action of the new party members and their leader as a homecoming.
Aziegbemi promised the new members that they would be integrated into the party to contribute to the party’s success in the state.
