Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has revealed that the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) was due to members preoccupation with thoughts of 2023 presidential election.

In an interview on Arise Television on Sunday, Governor Wike said the APC was not thinking delivering dividend of democracy to Nigerians.

“Everybody thinks of taking over from the President. So instead of you to concentrate, you are thinking of taking over,” he said.

“You don’t even know the minds of Nigeria. The point is that being a ruling party and with Mr. President being there, he won’t allow his party to lose out.”

2023 Presidential Ambition

On his own presidential ambition, the PDP chieftain debunked rumours that he was plotting to contest for the presidency in 2023.

Wike who said it was too early to start 2023 politics, recalled that rumours had claimed that he wanted to be running mate to the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal in the 2019 general election.

He said he had not finished his first term when the rumour of vying for vice-president emerged.

“When you take a position on certain issues, people will continue to speculate. I am not going to run for the President of Nigeria for now,” he said.

According to Governor Wike, the problem of who replaces President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 can be a problem in APC because it is a ruling party as some of its members would be warming up to occupy the opposition.
