Two Dead, 10 Injured As Another Building Collapses In Lagos

Two children, a boy, and a girl have been confirmed dead after they were trapped in a building that collapsed on Wednesday in Lagos State.

The building was reportedly hit by a mudslide resulting from heavy rainfall on Wednesday afternoon in the nation’s commercial capital city.

Naija News understands the incident occurred at 46, Gafari Balogun Street Ogudu, around 12:30pm.

Ten others were also injured in the building collapse as confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

LASEMA DG, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu told newsmen that when the agency’s response team arrived on the scene, they were able to retrieve the bodies of the two children but unfortunately, they were already dead.

Others who sustained minor injuries during the incident were treated on the scene while others that needed more attention were transferred to the hospital while the scene has been cordoned off.

He said: “The LASEMA Response Team received a distress call at 12:40pm about a collapsed building at 46, Gafari Balogun Street Ogudu. On arrival at the scene by agency responders, it was observed that a building collapsed as a result of a mudslide at the rear of the building caused by heavy rainfall.

“The agents were informed that two children, one male and one female, were trapped and immediately commenced a search and rescue operation. Unfortunately, they were found dead.”
