Succession: Presidency Reacts To Buhari's Meeting With APC Governors

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has slammed Mr. Femi Adesina over his recent use of words in replying the convener of the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF), Prof. Ango Abdullahi.

It will be recalled that Prof. Abdullahi on Sunday, lamented that the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership had failed Nigerians in the fight against insecurity.

He added that insurgents, bandits, and other criminal elements are having a filled day attacking and killing people across many communities in the country.

Abdullahi noted that the government has failed in its responsibility to protect the people.

However, in its response to the outburst by the NEF leader, Mr. Femi Adesina described Prof Abdullahi as a featherweight and a general who has no troops.

But the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum has criticized Mr. Adesina for his response, noting that the presidential media aide’s utterances reeked of lack of respect for elders.

A statement by AYCF President-General, Yerima Shettima, warned Adesina to apologize for using abusive words against Abdullahi and by extension, northern elders.

The AYCF who noted that Abdullahi spoke the truth about current developments in Nigeria said it is unbecoming of a presidential media aide to be credited with such words.

The statement reads: “That Femi Adesina has insulted the North and we take exception to his choice of words, which we believe he would never use against elders from Yoruba land for whatever reason. We demand the withdrawal of the abusive language he deployed against Professor Ango Abdullahi and other respected elders in NEF.

“We cannot fathom why telling truth to power over the increasing killings in the North by Prof Ango warrants the use of derogatory language against our elders by Femi Adesina

“We find it even scandalous that a Presidential Spokesman lacks the right choice of words to use in dodging the reality of today’s Nigeria, in which the North is worse off.”

The group noted that it is not the first time Mr. Adesina will use such words but such actions will no longer be tolerated from the presidential media aide.

“We would like to make it abundantly clear that we will not condone the deployment of foul language against our elders any more. This is not the first time Mr. Adesina would be spewing foul language against elders of our region but we hope it will be the last.

“While we stress that we would not take this kind of infantile attack on our elders, we wish to call in all Northerners of good conscience to ignore Adesina’s unguarded outburst against Prof Ango and NEF. Enough of this nonsense please.”
