Driver Murders Transport Union Member Over Ticket Fee

A 20-year-old commercial driver, Ismaila Bello has been arraigned before the Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court in Ekiti State for the murder of transport union member Femi Ajayi.

The alleged murder took place in Igogo Ekiti Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale said the incident occurred on September 25, 2019, over an N100 daily levy paid by drivers.

He explained further that the accused who is a driver was charged N100 for the daily ticket but he refused to pay the money which resulted to disagreement.

The disagreement led the union official to deflate the accused’ vehicle tyre which got him angry and beat him with a deadly charm. The deceased unfortunately died on the way to the hospital.

He said the offence violates Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code of Ekiti State 2012.

The inspector then advised the court to remand the accused in the correctional facility pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution while the appeal of the accused was rejected by the court.
