Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom To Deliver Maiden Memorial Lecture At UNN

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom will on Tuesday, May the 7th, deliver the maiden edition of Prof. Miriam Ikejiani-Clark Memorial Lecture, organized by the Department of Political Science, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Naija News understands.

Mr Abada Ifeanyichukwu, Head of Department of Political Science at the university, disclosed this to newsmen in Nsukka on Monday, also revealing the title of the lecture to be “The State and Management of Farmers/Headsmen Conflict in Nigeria; Lessons from the Benue Valley.”

Naija News learnt that the department decided to honour and institute a memorial lecture for Ikejiani-Clark because of her contributions to the country and to the field of political science in particular.

Insecurity: Gov Samuel Ortom Declares War On Criminals In Benue

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has revealed that there would be a statewide crackdown on criminals in the state.

Naija News learnt that Ortom said this in Agasha, Guma Local Government Area of the state at a thanksgiving service held at the NKST Church, Agasha.The thanksgiving service was organised in his honour by the Nongov Community Development Association.

The governor said with the end of the one-week prayer and fasting programme organised in conjunction with the Christian Association of Nigeria against evil in the state, it was time to match faith with works.He promised that criminal elements would have no hiding place in the state again.Naija News further understands that Ortom said a task force comprising the military, the police, as well as other security agencies would be engaged to fish out criminals.”

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom Promises To Investigate Rape Allegation At IDP Camps

The Benue State Government says it is investigating allegations of rape of victims at the Internally Displaced Camps.This follows the rising menace of rape and gender-based violence wrought against female IDPs often resulting in unwanted pregnancies.

A victim who craved anonymity revealed that a female member of the vigilante group took her away to a waiting security official. Disclosing further on how she was sexually harassed, she said the security personnel ignored several pleas by some women and forcefully raped her.
