1. FG says no cause for alarm over Nnamdi Kanu’s threat
The presidency has assured Nigerians that they have nothing to worry about concern the recent threat by the self proclaimed leader of the Independent People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu gave the assurance in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.
2. Army commences exercise crocodile smile 3 in Niger Delta
To curb the tide of pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta region, the Nigeria Military has began Operation Crocodile Smile III exercise across the states of the regions.
The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Tayo Oluwafemi of 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, made this known in a statement in Uyo on Tuesday.
3. Senate passes electoral amendment bill
The Electoral Act Amendment Bill has gone through third reading and passed, after it was stepped down for more legislative work at the last plenary session by the Senate.
The passage followed the adoption of the report by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission, Senator Suleiman Nazif.
4. Fayemi denies getting N30b from federal government
The Ekiti State Government has denied some malicious reports that the new administration has received N30 billion from the Federal Government in the last one week.
The state government made this known to today through press statement by Yinka Oyebode, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kayode Fayemi.
5. Shehu Sani joins PRP, picks senatorial ticket
The Senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Sen Shehu Sani, has, on Tuesday, pitched his tent with People’s Redemption Party, days after he dumped the All Progressive Congress (APC)
The embattled senator will be contesting for his seat in the national Assembly on the platform of his new political party.
6. Ambode says he would campaign for Sanwo-Olu and Buhari in 2019
Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has declared his intentions to support President Muhammadu Buhari and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governorship candidate of the the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
This he said while addressing reporters at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport shortly after he accompanied Buhari to perform the official commissioning of the new Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Seme-Krake joint border post in Badagry.
7. Shonekan is not dead, Ogun state government declares
The Ogun State Government on Tuesday evening debunked the rumoured death of Ernest Shonekan, former Head of Interim National Government of Nigeria.
Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa said the former Head of Interim National Government of Nigeria was hale and hearty and not dead as being speculated.
8. Government relaxes curfew in Kaduna state
The Kaduna State Government has relaxed the 24-hour curfew in certain areas of Kaduna state, giving residents between 1pm to 5pm “to restock on essentials.”
Mr Samuel Aruwan, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, who gave the statement on Tuesday in Kaduna, however said that the window did not include residents of Kabala West, Kabala Doki, Sabon-Tasha, Narayi and Maraban Rido where the 24-hour curfew still remains in place.
9. House of representatives to investigate NHIS crisis
The House of Representatives has decided to set up an ad hoc committee to look into the recent crisis at the National Health Insurance Scheme.
The committee has been given four weeks to complete the assignment.
10. Minister of finance says MTN was sanctioned because it took regulators for granted
Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance has adjudged that the federal government sanctions on MTN, was because the company took regulators for granted.
The Central Bank of Nigeria recently sanctioned four commercial banks as well as MTN, asking the telecommunications giant to refund $8billion for allegedly issuing irregular certificates of capital importation.
