Benue Assembly Impeach Samuel Ortom As Governor
Some members of the Benue State House of Assembly on Monday have moved to impeach the state Governor, Samuel Ortom.
The eight lawmakers belonging to the All Progressives Congress (out of 30) earlier served an impeachment notice on the governor according to reports by Channels TV.
Addressing journalists, the spokesperson for the eight lawmakers disclosed that Governor Ortom is up for impeachment over allegations of diversion of state funds and abuse of office.
The lawmakers have given Ortom seven days to respond to the allegations against him.
As earlier reported by Naija News, heavily armed security operatives besieged the Benue State house of Assembly in the early hours of Monday.
Earlier reports had also indicated that the move is part of a grand plan to reinstate the sacked Speaker, Rt Hon Terkimbi Ikyange, as well as impeach Samuel Ortom as governor of Benue state.
The crisis comes few days after Governor Ortom defected from the APC to the PDP, taking along with him, several lawmakers in the state, and the eventual impeachment of Rt Hon Terkimbi Ikyange, as the speaker of the House.
