1. President Buhari signs 2018 budget

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday signed the 2018 budget into law at a brief event at the state house in Abuja.

The budget was signed about six months after it was presented to the lawmakers and a month after the lawmakers passed the budget.

2. IPOB prints 40 million ballot papers for Biafra referendum

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has announced resumption of plans to hold a referendum towards the ‘peaceful restoration’ of the defunct Republic of Biafra.

IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, in a statement, said the first phase of the ‘three-stage referendum’ would take place in 2018.

3. President Buhari accuses National Assembly of padding 2018 budget

President Muhammadu Buhari has accused the National Assembly of manipulating the 2018 budget sent to them by cutting essential projects and inserting non-essential ones.

The President stated this while signing the 2018 budget into law on Wednesday.

4. Gov. Ortom denies agreeing to allow cattle ranching in Benue state

The Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has denied the report that he had agreed to cede a portion of land to the Nigerian government for ranching.

Ortom said he did not at any point during his speech at the media and communications briefing on the National Livestock Transformation Plan which took place in Abuja yesterday, agree that he would cede any land to the federal government.

5. 2019: CAN denies endorsing Buhari and Oshiomole

Rev. Samson Ayokunle, the President, Christian Association of Nigeria, has denied alleged report in some online media platforms: “CAN says no vacancy in Aso Rock, endorses Buhari, Oshiomhole’.

A statement from the Christian umbrella body, says the report was issued by a political movement, ‘Change Advocates of Nigeria (CAN),’ with the same acronym, CAN.

6. OAU sacks sex for marks professor

Prof. Richard Akindele, the lecturer, allegedly implicated in a sex-for-marks scandal, have been dismissed by the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

The Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, made Akindele’s dismissal known in a statement on Wednesday in Ile-Ife.

7. Prof. Osunbor withdraws from APC national chairmanship race

Former Edo State Governor, Prof. Osarhiemen Osunbor, has withdrawn from the race for the position of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.

This, he said, was to enable him to support Adams Oshiomhole, whom he said had what was required to lead the party to the next level.

8. National Assembly confirms padding 2018 budget

The National Assembly leadership has confirmed the allegation raised by President Muhammadu Buhari on the manipulation of the 2018 budget estimates sent to the lawmakers.

In their reaction, the lawmakers said they had no option than to tinker with the budget estimates.

9. Police clash with Shiite members in Kaduna

Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command yesterday engaged members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shi’ites, in a gun duel in Kaduna over the continuous detention of Sheikh Ibrahim El-zakzaky, leader of the group.

The Shiites, in their numbers, in protest, took over the popular Ahmadu Bello Way, the commercial nerve of the state capital, carrying placards with various inscriptions demanding the release of their leader thereby grounding business activities within the city centre for hours.

10. Atiku visits Jonathan in Bayelsa state

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar paid a courtesy visit to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, on Wednesday.

Gbenga Daniel, former governor of Ogun state, who is the director-general of his Atiku’s 2019 presidential campaign, was also present.
