Truck Crushes Corps Member, Two Others In Abuja

A truck conveying granite lost its brakes and killed three persons, including a female youth corps member at Arab Road junction, Kubwa, in Abuja, on Wednesday.

Naija News gathered that six persons, including commercial motorcyclists and roadside traders, were also injured by the truck.

It was learnt that the truck was coming from a quarry owned by a Turkish company, Zeberced Nigeria Ltd., located behind the new Kubwa market, off Arab Road, Kubwa.

An eyewitness, who simply identified herself as Mummy Shade, told Punch that few minutes before the crash, the driver of the truck was seen shouting and gesticulating that the vehicle had lost its brakes, but the victims and other pedestrians did not understand him until it was too late.

She said, “The truck was seen careening down Arab Road towards the expressway and the driver was shouting, ‘no brakes, no brakes,’ but most people didn’t hear or understand him until the truck ran over a female youth corps member who was on a motorcycle, killing her and the okada rider instantly.

“It also crushed a pedestrian who was walking along the road, it was a terrible sight. Some motorcycles were also crushed and it took some time for security agencies to clear the gridlock caused by the accident at the Arab Road junction,” she narrated.

The Federal Road Safety Corps spokesman, Bisi Kazeem, confirmed that three persons died in the accident as a result of brake failure.

The victims of the accident, whose identities were yet unknown, have reportedly been taken to the Kubwa General Hospital.
