1. FG to monitor social media accounts of prominent Nigerians

The Federal Government has ordered relevant security agencies to as a matter of urgency tackle the propagation of hate speeches, especially through the social media and particularly by some notable Nigerians.

This follows the closed door meeting which held yesterday between President Muhamamdu Buhari and the nation’s security chiefs in a bid to end the spate of insecurity in the country.

2. Evans the kidnapper sues Police over 25 seized trucks

Notorious Kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, has demanded the release of 25 Mack trucks in a fresh suit he filed against the police.

His lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, in the suit said that the trucks were seized by the police without a court order on June 15, 2017.

3. Deji Tinubu slumps and dies during a football match

Deji Tinubu, who was a Special Adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Sports, died on Thursday evening. He is the younger brother of Wale Tinubu, Oando CEO.

Tinubu reportedly slumped while taking part in football at the ongoing retreat/meeting organised by the Lagos State Government for members of its State Executive Council and top functionaries in Epe.

4. APC committee on restructuring recommends state police, others

The Governor Nasir El Rufai committee on true federalism, has submitted its report to the National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, calling for more devolution of powers to states.

The committee recommended that 10 items be moved from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent list.

5. Senate tells FG to end fuel scarcity in one week

The Nigerian Senate has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to, within one week, end long queues in fuel stations across the country.

The resolution followed the unanimous adoption of an interim report of its Joint Committee on Petroleum Resources, over the lingering fuel crisis in the country.

6. Igbo elders reject cattle colonies

Igbo Elders Council has vowed to resist any attempt by the Federal Government to establish cattle colonies in South East states.

Eze Igbo in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Ibe Nwosu, told newsmen at the end of their emergency meeting in Abuja, yesterday, that the policy was not only conservative, retrogressive and obnoxious, but parasitic, anachronistic and anti-people and must be rejected by all.

7. FG blames anti-open grazing bill for killings by herdsmen

The Federal Government has blamed the implementation of anti-open grazing bill in some states of the federation as the major reason for the killings by Fulani herdsmen in the country.

Speaking with State House correspondents at the end of a meeting of security chiefs with President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, urged Nigerians to learn to accept foreigners in their areas.

8. Air accident averted at the Abuja International Airport

An aircraft operated by Nestoil lost its landing gear and two tyres while landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Reports have it that the aircraft, which had nine persons on board at the time of the incident, skidded off the runway as two of its back tyres pulled off when it touched down at the Abuja airport.

9. Big Brother Naija premieres on Sunday, 28th January

The much anticipated third season of Africa’s biggest reality television show, Big Brother Naija, premieres on Sunday, the 28 January, 2018 at 7:00 pm, Nigerian time.

10. NFF appoints new coach for Super Falcons

Thomas Dennerby has reached an agreement with Nigeria Football Federation to join the Super Falcons as Head Coach.

The Swede, according to a statement released by Ademola Olajire, NFF’s Director of Communications, will also come with an assistant, Jorgen Petersson.
