1. Buhari orders IGP Idris to relocate to Benue over herdsmen killings

President Muhammadu Buhari, has ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to immediately relocate to Benue State to prevent further loss of lives and forestall the crisis in the state from escalating and spreading.

The IG would be moving to Benue state with five units of riot policemen making a total of 10 units deployed in the state, in addition to other police contingents and special forces on the ground

2. 3 killed, 6 injured in fresh Taraba attacks

The police in Taraba on Monday, confirmed the death of three persons while no fewer than  six others sustained injuries in another overnight attack on Maisamari  in town in Sardauna Local Government Area  of the state by a suspected militia group.

3. More Nigerians return from Libya

The federal government has continued with on going efforts to repatriate more Nigerians from the slave trade in the North African country of Libya.

The Director General of National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Engr Mustapha Maihaja, stated that the returnees are part of the 5,037 stranded Nigerians identified for evacuation back home.

4. Non academic workers in Nigerian universities refuse to call off strike

Operating under the auspices of the Joint Action Committee, (JAC), members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU as well as National Association of Academic Technologists , NAAT have vowed to sit at home until their demands are met.

They promised not to be intimidated by any attempt to compel its members to return to work without a resolution to their problems.

5. Obasanjo yet to decide on supporting Buhari for second term

former Nigerian president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has said that it is not yet ripe to determine if he will support President Muhammadu Buhari’s bid for a second term in office or not.

6. Federal government moves to stop Senate probe of Maina saga

AGF Abubakar Malami yesterday, asked the court to stop the Senate from carrying on with the ongoing probe into the reinstatement of the sacked Abdulrasheed Maina.

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court however, declined the ex-parte application seeking to stop the Senate’s ongoing probe into the controversial recall of the ex-pension task force boss.

7. DSS operative sacked over Yusuf Buhari’s power bike accident

Some operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) have reportedly been relieved of their duty after it was revealed that they were relaxed on their responsibility of guiding President Muhammadu Buhari’s only son, Yusuf, who was involved in a ghastly accident, during a power-bike racing on Tuesday, December 26,2017.

8. Nigeria’s external reserves reaches new high of $40.4bn

A statement on Monday, by the Central bank stated that the country’s external reserves reached $40.4bn on Friday, January 5, 2018. This indicated an increase of about $1bn between December 2017 and January 2018.

9. NAF helicopter crashes during Boko Haram surveillance

An helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Airforce, the Mi-17, suffered a mishap on Monday in the North East while on counter-insurgency duties.

The NAF however disclosed that though the aircraft was badly damaged, no lives were lost.

10. Coutinho out injured for 3 weeks

New Barcelona signing, Philippe Coutinho would not be able to play for his new club as he is nursing a thigh injury which has ruled him out of action for up to 3 weeks.

The injury to the Brazillian play maker was discovered during his medicals at Barcelona.
