Revenue: Customs Generates N1tn In 2017

Despite the economic recession experienced in the country, the Nigeria Customs Service has recorded disclosed that it generated a total of N1.01tn revenue in the 2017 fiscal year.

The 2017 revenue collection is the highest ever recorded by the service.

The Public Relations Officer, NCS, Mr Joseph Attah, made the disclosure during a media briefing held at the Customs headquarters in Abuja.

Describing the revenue performance as spectacular, Attah said that the N1.01tn was collected with about five working days to the end of the 2017 fiscal year.

He stated that the revenue collection for 2017 exceeds the set target of N770.57bn for the year by is N241.68bn.

Attah said the revenue generated is above the N898.67bn collected in 2016.

He said the agency recorded the revenue collection irrespective of the economic recession facedĀ  earlier in the year with the low volume of imports which was caused by restrictions placed on 41 items from accessing the foreign exchange.
