Beggars arrested in Kano for violating street begging laws.

65 suspected beggars have been arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board for contravening the law banning street begging in the state.

This was disclosed on Tuesday in Kano by an official of the Hisbah Anti Begging Unit, Malam Dahiru Muhammed.

According to him, the suspects were arrested during different raids in areas around Bata, Bompai, Bank and Kabuga roads in the Kano metropolis were all arrested in November.

A further breakdown of the arrests made by the Hisbah board, shows of the 65 arrested individuals, eight were children, while 57 were adults.

47 of the beggars were from Kano, while 18 were from Bauchi, Jigawa, Gombe, Kogi and Zamfara States.

He disclosed some of the arrested suspects were set free after been identified as first time offenders while the Hisbah Board also released those found to be suffering from mental disorder.

Those from neighbouring states have also been taken back to their respective states.
