Kenyan Police Arrest Man in Connection with Boston Airport Murder

Kevin Kangethe, a 40-year-old man wanted for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, whose body was found at Boston Logan International Airport, has been arrested in Kenya. The arrest was made at a nightclub in Nairobi following a tipoff, as stated by the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohammed Amin.

Kangethe is accused of killing Margaret Mbitu, 31, of Whitman, Massachusetts, who was reported missing by her family two days before her body was discovered in a car at the airport parking garage in early November. The circumstances surrounding the murder and the discovery of Mbitu’s body have drawn significant attention from law enforcement agencies.

The efforts to apprehend Kangethe involved coordination between Kenyan authorities and U.S. law enforcement agencies, including the Massachusetts State Police. The arrest marks a significant development in the case, and Kangethe is expected to be extradited to face charges related to the murder.

This case has highlighted the international collaboration between law enforcement agencies in tracking and apprehending suspects across borders. The U.S. Embassy has also commended the efforts of Kenyan law enforcement in arresting Kangethe.

As of now, it remains unclear if Kangethe has legal representation. Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden in Boston has praised the efforts that led to the arrest. David Procopio, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police, described the arrest as a joint effort that spanned oceans and continents, emphasizing the international nature of the law enforcement operation.
