Excursion Disaster: Over 20 Students, 3 Teachers Die In Road Crash

Twenty-Two pupils and three teachers of Government Secondary School, Misau, Bauchi State, who went on an excursion in Kano, have died in a ghastly accident.

The accident occurred around 11 am, along the Bauchi-Kano road on Tuesday

The 18-seater bus had collided into a truck carrying tomatoes in Tsaida village in Gaya Local Government Council.

The pupils were on their way to a radio station on excursion.

Spokesman of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kano State, Kabir Ibrahim-Daura, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the 22 students and their driver died while three others sustained serious injuries.

“Of the 22 students, 12 are males while the remaining 10 are females.

“Two of the injured were taken to Gaya General Hospital while the remaining one has been referred to a Specialist Hospital in Kano,” he said.

Ibrahim-Daura said all the bodies had been deposited at the Gaya General Hospital.

An eyewitness account said both the bus and the truck were trying to avoid pot holes at Samia Uku village when the accident occurred.

The eyewitness Ibrahim Adamu said there is an ongoing road construction in the area.

“The bus was on high speed and same with the trailer before the driver of the bus lost control and collided with the truck”

Police Spokesman in Kano Magaji Musa Majia also confirmed the crash.
