APC: Shettima Meets Tinubu After Retention As 2027 Running Mate

Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, on Friday, met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, following his retention as the All Progressives Congress (APC) vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Naija News reports that the meeting took place shortly after the ruling party formally unveiled the Tinubu-Shettima presidential ticket at a stakeholders’ gathering in Abuja.

Shettima visited the President to express appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and his selection to run alongside Tinubu for a second time.

His retention as vice presidential candidate ended weeks of speculation about whether the President would choose another running mate ahead of the 2027 election.

With the development, the APC will approach the next presidential election on the same ticket that secured the party’s victory in the 2023 poll.

Earlier on Friday, the Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications and Orientation, Sunday Dare, announced that Tinubu had submitted his nomination form to the APC National Working Committee.

Dare, in a post on his 𝕏 account, said the President emerged as the party’s sole aspirant for the 2027 presidential election.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted his nomination form to the APC NWC as our sole presidential candidate for 2027. He has retained Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate,” Dare wrote.

The announcement formally confirmed the continuation of the Tinubu-Shettima political partnership ahead of the next general election.

Nomination Forms Presented To Chairman

Tinubu and Shettima’s nomination documents were presented to the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, during the stakeholders’ meeting held at the Continental Hotel, Abuja.

The forms were submitted on their behalf by the President’s Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari.

The ceremony attracted senior party members, government officials and elected representatives from across the country.

Among those present was the Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma.

Other attendees included APC governors, members of the party’s National Working Committee, lawmakers belonging to the APC caucus in the National Assembly and members of the Federal Executive Council.
