APC Sweeps Edo Local Govt Elections, Wins All 18 Chairmanship Seats

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of all the 18 chairmanship seats in the Edo State Local Government election conducted on Saturday.

The declaration was made by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC).

The exercise was largely deemed peaceful and orderly by observers, despite the low voter turnout across several polling units.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, who voted at Ward 2, Udomi Primary School, in Esan Central Local Government Area, described the exercise as peaceful and commended the impressive turnout of voters across the state, saying it reflected the people’s commitment to grassroots democracy.

The election was held across the state’s 18 local government areas to elect chairmen and councillors, with security agencies, accredited observers and journalists monitoring the exercise.

At his polling unit, where voting commenced early with electoral officials and security personnel on the ground, the governor arrived at about 10:24 a.m., joined other voters in the queue and cast his ballot at exactly 10:40 a.m.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will record a resounding victory in the 2027 elections.

According to him, the party already has about 12 million votes assured from its registered members nationwide.

Naija News reports that he expressed confidence while speaking on Friday in Abuja at the submission of the nomination forms of President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as the party’s candidates for the 2027 presidential election.

He added that the overwhelming support Tinubu received during the APC presidential primary is a testament to what to expect during the elections.

According to him, millions of Nigerians benefiting from the administration’s programmes and projects would further boost the President’s chances at the polls.
