All African Countries Eliminated From 2026 World Cup

Africa’s participation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup came to an end following Morocco’s 2-0 defeat to France in their quarter-final encounter.

Naija News understands that the Atlas Lions entered the match as the continent’s last surviving representatives after nine other African teams had been eliminated from the competition.

Morocco had carried Africa’s hopes following an impressive campaign that took them beyond the knockout stages and into the last eight of the expanded tournament.

However, their defeat to France brought the North Africans’ remarkable run to an end and ensured that no African country would feature in the semi-finals.

Morocco began their World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against five-time champions Brazil.

The Atlas Lions followed up the result with a narrow 1-0 victory over Scotland, then defeated Haiti 4-2 in their final group fixture.

Those results earned Morocco a place in the knockout rounds after they finished as runners-up in Group C.

The North Africans continued their strong showing in the Round of 32, eliminating the Netherlands in a penalty shootout.

They then produced one of their most convincing performances of the tournament by defeating co-hosts Canada 3-0 in the Round of 16.

The victory over Canada secured Morocco’s place in the quarter-finals and made them the only African side to reach the last eight of the competition.

Egypt Also Reached Last 16

Ten African countries participated in the 2026 World Cup, but only Morocco and Egypt progressed as far as the Round of 16.

Egypt’s campaign ended after they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Argentina in a closely contested last-16 encounter.

Nine African teams had earlier qualified for the Round of 32. They were the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Egypt, Cape Verde, Morocco and Algeria.
