Reps Summon Accountant-General, Six MDAs Over Repeated Absence
The House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee has summoned the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, over his repeated failure to honour invitations from the panel.
The committee, chaired by Bamidele Salam, directed Ogunjimi to appear in person before it on Monday, July 13, 2026.
At its sitting on Tuesday, the committee expressed displeasure over what it described as the accountant-general’s non-responsive attitude, saying his conduct fell short of expectations for the country’s chief accounting officer.
The lawmakers said the accountant-general had repeatedly failed to provide critical documents needed for the committee’s oversight duties.
They said several letters sent to his office over the past few months had not received adequate responses.
Salam said the Office of the Accountant-General occupied a strategic role in Nigeria’s public financial management system and was expected to cooperate fully with the National Assembly.
He warned that no public officer or institution was above accountability.
The committee also issued final invitations to six ministries, departments and agencies whose accounting officers had repeatedly failed to appear before it.
They are the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan, Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, Federal Ministry of Education, Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, and Federal Ministry of Police Affairs.
The committee directed their accounting officers and permanent secretaries to appear on Monday, July 13, 2026.
Salam warned that the panel would invoke its constitutional and legislative powers against any official or institution that failed to comply.
