People Are Afraid To Greet Me, No Longer Invite Me To Events – Peter Obi
Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said Nigeria must overcome division and hatred.
Speaking in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Obi said the country has become deeply divided and that restoring unity remains one of his priorities.
“We have divided the country, breeding hatred among us,” he said, adding, “I want to bring back unity where there’s division. I want to show love, compassion, care.”
Naija News reports that Obi claimed that many people now avoid being seen with him because they fear becoming targets of the government.
“To the Anambra people I know, at the airport they will not greet me because they are afraid that if they greet me, they become targets of the government,” he said.
He also alleged that some families invite him to events but later ask him not to attend.
“I have people send me invitations and say, ‘My son, my daughter is waiting. But please don’t come, they don’t invite me'” Obi stated.
The former Anambra State governor further claimed that he is being deliberately frustrated by the government in his daily activities.
“They’re attacking everybody who is in opposition personally. I am being attacked personally. Everything,” he said.
Recalling a recent incident, Obi alleged that airport officials locked his car while other vehicles parked in the same area were left untouched.
“I had a case recently at the airport where people who work in the airport came and locked my car,” he said, adding that when he questioned the action, he noticed officials speaking among themselves while other cars remained where they were.
