Ogun: Amosun, Adeola Bury Political Differences Ahead Of 2027 Poll
Former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Senator Solomon Adeola, appear to have buried their political differences, with both leaders expressing readiness to work together for the victory of the ruling party in the 2027 general elections.
The apparent reconciliation followed a closed-door meeting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, which lasted for over an hour and was attended by the two political leaders, a former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and other party chieftains.
The meeting, described as a strategic consultative engagement, is believed to be part of broader efforts to reconcile aggrieved blocs within the Ogun State chapter of the APC and strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development comes after years of political acrimony among major stakeholders of the ruling party in the state.
Speaking after the meeting, Amosun indicated that the political leaders had resolved to put their differences aside and prioritise the interests of the party and the people of Ogun State.
“Our focus now is unity and victory for APC in Ogun State. We are putting party and people first. We are all the same, no discrimination again,” the former governor said.
Amosun also openly declared his support for Adeola’s governorship ambition, calling on party members and supporters to rally behind the APC candidate.
“He is our candidate, and we must all rally round him and our party, the APC, to ensure victory of our party,” Amosun stated.
The former governor stressed the need for unity of purpose among party members before, during and after the 2027 general elections.
Adeola, on his part, formally presented himself to the former governor as the APC governorship candidate and sought his cooperation, prayers and political guidance.
“As you are rightly aware, Your Excellency, I am our party’s governorship candidate. I am here to present myself to you, and I am seeking your support, prayers and guidance for the victory of our party come 2027,” Adeola said.
The engagement is expected to further boost reconciliation efforts within the Ogun APC, particularly among supporters of the former governor and other party stakeholders who had previously belonged to different political camps.
Adeola Visits Obasanjo
As part of his ongoing consultations, Adeola and members of his team also visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.
During the visit, the senator formally presented himself as the APC governorship candidate and received counsel from the former president on leadership, governance and the pursuit of political ambition.
Obasanjo prayed that Adeola’s political ambition would align with God’s purpose for his life.
“My prayer is that your desires and your ambitions will be in alignment with what God has planned for you,” Obasanjo said.
“You see, one of our greatest challenges in life is that we often grow in darkness when we do not know God’s plan for our lives.”
The former president recalled that his original ambition was to study geology and build a career in the oil and gas sector before his life took a different turn.
“I keep telling people that, initially, I wanted to study geology. I even gained admission to college. My dream was to go to America, study geology, become a great geologist, and work in the oil and gas industry.
“But that was not God’s plan for me. God’s plan was different. His plan was for me to make progress through the military. That was the path He had prepared for me, and He helped me every step of the way. I pray that God’s purpose for your life will also be fulfilled,” he added.
Obasanjo further urged Adeola to remain focused and determined in pursuing his political aspirations.
“Be focused on what you want to do and what you want to achieve. If anyone has a goal or an aspiration, let them declare it, pursue it with determination, and leave the rest to God and to our people,” the former president said.
He also advised the APC candidate to prioritise agriculture if elected governor, citing the sector’s potential to create jobs, strengthen food security and drive economic transformation in Ogun State.
The meetings with Amosun and Obasanjo form part of Adeola’s consultations with political leaders and stakeholders ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
