Two Soldiers Killed, Three Injured In Sokoto Ambush
Two soldiers were reportedly killed while three others sustained injuries when troops came under a terrorist ambush in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The incident was said to have occurred around 10 pm on Tuesday, June 30, after troops of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division, deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Tidibale, responded to a terrorist attack on Tagirke village.
Counter-insurgency publication, Zagazola Makama, citing security sources, said the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle and forced them to retreat from the village.
The publication said the soldiers ran into a planned ambush by the fleeing terrorists while withdrawing from the area.
According to the report, one of the military gun trucks struck an Improvised Explosive Device, leading to casualties among the troops.
It said two soldiers were killed in action, while three others were injured.
The bodies of the slain soldiers were reportedly evacuated to the mortuary of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
The injured personnel were also taken to the 8 Division Medical Services and Hospital for treatment.
Zagazola Makama added that the damaged gun truck was later recovered and towed back to the Forward Operating Base in Tidibale.
It said troops had intensified efforts to track down the attackers, recover missing weapons and sustain offensive operations in the area.
