Court Adjourns Emeka Ike’s ₦10 Billion Rights Suit Against INEC, Wike’s Aide

A Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned until July 22 for further mention in the ₦10 billion fundamental rights suit filed by Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike, against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The matter, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1272/2026, came up before Justice S.O. Ibrahim on Wednesday. Counsel for the actor, L.T. Adeh, told the court that the first respondent had served its response to the suit.

Adeh said hearing notices had been served on both respondents, but noted that INEC was absent. He urged the court to adjourn the matter to enable the electoral body to appear.

Justice Ibrahim granted a short adjournment in the interest of fair hearing and ordered that INEC be served with a hearing notice and all processes before the next date.

The suit followed allegations that Ike’s voter registration details were unlawfully disclosed on Olayinka’s 𝕏 handle after screenshots showing the transfer of his voter registration from Imo State to the FCT surfaced online.

Ike is seeking ₦10 billion in damages for alleged breach of privacy, as well as orders directing the removal of the post and a public apology.

Speaking after the sitting, counsel for Olayinka, Akpama Ekwe, said the evidence before the court was “inadmissible.”

“There is no case against my client,” Ekwe said.

“What my client published, apart from being in the public domain, does not contain any personal information,” he added.

Adeh, however, said INEC had “no defence in the matter,” adding that the case could help prevent future breaches of voters’ data.

“I think this is going to be a very interesting case, and we hope that the court will do justice,” he stated.
