2027: Details Of APC Governors Meeting With Party Chairman
Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have met with the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, as part of efforts to resolve internal disputes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting was convened by the Progressive Governors’ Forum, the umbrella body of APC governors, following controversies that trailed the party’s nationwide primaries.
Chairman of the forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, disclosed this while addressing journalists after the meeting.
He said the governors reviewed the outcome of the primaries across the country, the party’s performance in the recent Ekiti governorship election and several bye-elections.
The meeting was attended by governors of Ekiti, Zamfara, Taraba, Lagos, Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Gombe, Kebbi, Akwa Ibom and Borno states, among others.
The APC primaries held in May were reportedly marred by complaints of irregular voting, alleged imposition of candidates and manipulation of delegate lists.
The controversies had created tension within the party, prompting the national leadership to delay the public release of the final candidates’ list in order to manage grievances.
Uzodimma said the governors resolved to continue engaging the national leadership to harmonise strategies, reconcile aggrieved members and strengthen party unity before the general election.
He said the forum was satisfied with the party’s electoral outings, describing its performance in recent elections as encouraging ahead of the 2027 polls.
“We reviewed the outcome of the primaries across the federation, the Ekiti governorship election and the various bye-elections where our party performed impressively,” Uzodimma said.
“We have resolved to work towards solving the challenges facing our democratic space and ensuring that our people are better off.”
The PGF chairman added that beyond electoral preparations, the governors also discussed governance, democratic development and ways to ensure Nigerians benefit more from APC-led administrations.
