‘Unfortunate Event’ – Atiku Reacts To Lagos Floods

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has commiserated with the people of Lagos State affected by the recent flood caused by heavy rains.

Atiku, in a statement on Tuesday, described the effects of the flood as unfortunate.

The former Vice President pointed out that it has affected families, motorists, commuters, business owners and several others and prayed for safety as well as a quick return to normalcy.

“I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the people of Lagos who have been affected by the ongoing flooding. My thoughts are with the families, motorists, commuters, business owners and everyone whose lives and livelihoods were disrupted by this unfortunate event.
At moments like this, we are reminded of the strength of our shared humanity and the importance of standing together in support of one another. I pray for the safety of all, for a swift return to normalcy,” Atiku wrote on his Facebook page.

Naija News reports that heavy rainfall disrupted several activities in Lagos State, with many houses severely flooded.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned residents of Lagos and other coastal states of a heightened risk of flash flooding on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

The warning was contained in NiMet’s Tuesday Weather Outlook for June 30.

The agency said sustained rainfall across the southern region could trigger flash floods in coastal and low-lying communities, particularly in Lagos and other states along Nigeria’s southern coastline.

NiMet forecast thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states in the morning.

It added that rainfall would intensify later in the day, with moderate rainfall expected across the entire southern region during the afternoon and evening.
