Babcock To Sue Carter Efe For Forged Certificate
Babcock University has denied claims made by comedian and content creator Carter Efe that he graduated from the school with a “first class upper” in Biochemistry.
Naija News reports that the institution said the certificate being circulated in his name is not genuine and did not come from the university.
The controversy started after Carter Efe, whose real name is Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, said in an interview that he studied at the private university and finished with high academic results.
He later shared a document online that he presented as his graduation certificate, dated 2023.
Following the post, the university released a statement rejecting the document. It said the paper is not recognized by the school and contains details that do not match its academic system.
The school explained that it does not issue honorary certificates for undergraduate performance and also does not use the term “First Class Upper” as a grade classification.
It stated that the correct academic recognition is First Class Honours, awarded only through official certificates and transcripts from the registrar’s office.
The statement read: “Babcock University unequivocally states that this document is false, unauthorized, and does not emanate from the University.
“Babcock University does not issue “Honorary Certificates” in recognition of undergraduate academic performance.
“Academic excellence, including the award of First Class Honours, is formally recognized only through the University’s official degree certificate and academic transcript issued by the Office of the Registrar.
“There is no academic classification or degree known to Babcock University as “First Class Upper”. The recognized classification is First Class Honours.
“Babcock University warns public of forged certificates in circulation, including fake “Honorary” ones with a non-existent “First Class Upper” classification. We DO NOT issue such documents. “First Class Upper” doesn’t exist here. Legal action underway.”
