NDC: Opposition Must Stand Together Against Dictatorship – Abdullahi

The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdulahi, has condemned the decision of the court to reverse itself on the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

He described it as an attack against the opposition in Nigeria.

Naija News recalls that a Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, set aside its earlier judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.

Justice Isah Dashen, who delivered the ruling on Friday, June 26, held that the court’s December 10, 2025, judgment adversely affected the rights of the Peace Movement Party, which was not joined as a party in the suit.

The Peace Movement Party had claimed ownership of the logo relied upon in obtaining the judgment that led to the registration of the NDC.

Reacting to the development, the ADC spokesperson, in a statement via his 𝕏 Account, alleged a concerted effort by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to shrink democratic space in Nigeria.

He stated further that such a move is unprecedented and smacks of dictatorship.

Abdullahi added that the opposition parties in Nigeria must work together against such tendencies and protect the country’s democracy.

“The Lokoja Federal High Court’s decision to set aside its initial judgment that recognised the NDC is another reminder that no opposition party is immune when there is a concerted attempt to shrink the democratic space by the ruling party.

“What we are witnessing is certainly unprecedented. Attempts to deregister political parties on the eve of an election is certainly the move of a dictatorship.

“And, this is precisely why the opposition must stand together.

“Divided, we are easy targets. But united, we can confront the growing monster of dictatorship and defend the constitutional right of Nigerians to freely choose their leaders. Democracy survives only when the opposition survives,” he wrote,
